Halloween

Once upon a time, a long long time ago...
when I was a little girl...

Here are my Halloween memories as a child. Please leave your favorite memories in the comment section. Thank you.

1. My grandma gave me a man made out of carrots held together with toothpicks for my Halloween treat. (I know, a what now?) I thought it was so awesome I kept it until it was withered and wrinkly. Much like my grandma. :)
2. I was a carebear for Halloween one year. Not one of those cute store-bought ones, but one my mom made. I have to say, it was pretty awesome from the outside but man! it itched me so bad. Also I had cut my own bangs recently. Off. Those are some cute pics.
3. Once I was trick-or-treating with my dear friend Julie, who was a bride. I was a baby, which was the style at the time. I think we were on our first house when her dress caught fire on a jack-o-lantern and we had to put her out. I forget what happened after that.
4. My mom never let me use a pillow case as a candy sack because it was "greedy." And she wouldn't drive me around to the rich neighborhoods after we were finished with our neighborhood either.
5. After Halloween I would usually play restaurant and make up a menu with the loot I had and sell it to my friends for other better candy. Always the entrepreneur.

I LOVE HALLOWEEN! I am way more excited for my kids to get dressed up in their costumes than even they are, I think!

I remember the "costume parades" at Discovery El...was that a fun school, or what?

I also remember what seems to be most of my childhood years there being snow on the ground at Halloween and how cold it was. Do we blame the change on Global Warming??? I don't think there's been snow on Halloween in a very long time.

Romney's always had pretty good candy.

Julie burning her costume, she ran home, next door. We still went out trick or treating after that.

haha!! i was just reminding merv of this story last night...he laughs every time. my mom actually patched the HUMONGOUS burn hole and i think someone wore it the next year. i'm lucky that the big poofy slip didn't melt to my leg or something. i also remember my mom getting dressed as an awesome witch and bringing candy to discovery. :) poor kids now days, most of the schools don't even get to celebrate or dress up and if they do its called "fall fest" or "autumn celebration". give me a break. i remember celebrating all kinds of cultures holidays at schools like chinese new year and cinco de mayo.... the end.

I remember the good old days when my Grandma used to have Sis' attic with the costume shop in the basement! We loved to see how people would pick out their costumes and also picking out the best ones for us!

I remember a really cute tiger costume my Grandma made me, & then I fell asleep with my legs hanging over the bed shortly after getting home ( age 5.) Then one year I was a gypsy; my mom made the costume. Always the homemade one's seem so cute & original. I also recall begging my Mom in 8th grade if I could go just one more year with my friends. I'm sure all the cool kids didn't even think to go in 8th grade! lol Love Halloween too & sooo excited for my kids.

My most memorable moments were that of my brothers and sister and I dumping out all of our candy into our individual piles and then the negotiating would begin. We would stay up for hours trying to make deals that would get us all the candy that we really wanted. "I'll give you 5 smarties for your snickers... Um... no"

My only memory (she ain't what she used to be) is that my dad would need to "inspect" our candy. I'd always come out of that situation a little bit sad and a lotta bit lighter in the candy department.

"They could have razors in them."

I remember getting my candy "inspected" for razors and tampering!!haha I would have a ton of snickers before dad inspected it and mysteriously, the snickers were all defective!hmmm! I was also a homemade care bear one year! The pink one with the rainbow on the tummy! It did itch like heck!!!

Speaking of the school parades, check out this lame variation:
Since we can't have Halloween in schools anymore (seriously, what is the world coming to?) Sadie's school is having a vocabulary parade. That's right. She gets to dress up as a word. Awesome.

Are you serious a vocabulary parade!!!!!!!! I am still laughing a little bit. I can't wait to see pics of that. I had no idea the parades were banned, every school I know of out here still has them. Just can't do masks, fake weapons, or the big no-no...cross dressing!

Ok so this has nothing to do with Halloween I'm just answering your question about that Rodney Atkins song on my play list. You crack me up with the kinds of things you remember, anyways, I have that song on there for Luke, it's his favorite song :) We put it on a video we made for him when he was little. I kinda like that one because it does remind me of Luke and Jeremy. But you're right it does sound like my FAVORITE sippy cup o milk song.:)How was your Thanksgiving? Did you have it at your house on your HUGE table?
