My Baby's One Tough Cookie.
Long Story Short. I myself have a tiny attention span so I'll keep it sweet. We were at a friend's house last Saturday night and Cydnie tried to hug their dog. The dog bit her across the face. Sliced under her eye and put a puncture wound in the other side of her face. I held my cool pretty well, I thought. I called the ER and my dear friend was the nurse on duty. She said if it didn't look like it needed stitches just clean it out really well with soap and water and put neosporin on it. So I did that. The next day it was looking red around the edges so I really wanted someone to look at it. I tried to get in to both of the clinics here and couldn't. So the next day i finally got in to one and the doctor came in and said, "What took you so long, what'd you do, Walk?"
I swear everytime I have to go into the doctor for some reason other than a regular checkup I get offended. I'm sure it's just me. Would that have offended you? If you tried to get in before that and their clinic turned you away and then said that to you??
Anyway, on with the story. By the time we got in to the doctor, my dear friend's husband who owned the dog had "taken care of the dog so this wouldn't happen again" if you get what I mean and so could therefore not be tested for Rabies. A different doctor had taken over my case by the next day and informed me that since we couldn't test the dog, and knew it hadn't had its rabies shots, and Rabies is a fatal and untreatable disease my baby would have to go through the Rabies series vaccination. Immediately.
So we went to the hospital and they gave her four shots in the face and one in each leg. That scream is something no mother wants to hear and is absolutely undescribable. It was a torture scene. Tears were running down my face as I watched her; there was nothing I could do. She kept screaming, "I'm done! I'm done! That's enough!" and "I want a soft shot!"
Nightmare.
Later that day when I got home, Sadie didn't get off the bus. A new panic. I called the bus garage and they said she never got on the bus. So then I called the school and no one would answer. So I had to drive 10 minutes back into town in hysterics looking for Sadie. I got out and full on ran into the school back to her classroom. And there she was. Drawing on the chalkboard. She had gotten confused about how parent-teacher conference works. She knew I was coming to meet her teacher and thought that meant don't get on the bus. Anyway, both crises are resolved and I ended the day with a party w/ my girlfriends at my house. We had a blast. :)

Poor Cyd. She is one tough cookie. And I can totally understand. When Michael had that thing grow on his neck and the experience with his surgery and his cries as the doctor took him away to the surgery room, and I couldn't do a thing. It is so hard!! But she made it and I am sure she will never forget it.
Oh, man, Alison! I'm sooo sorry you had such a rough day!! Or couple days, rather! I hope Cyd's doing lots better now. And I would have been totally offended by that doctor's comment, too--it's not just you. That's awful. Glad things ended better. Hope you're doing okay!
Oh my hell. That was quite the story. You've had all the mother scares one mom needs gets in a year, and you had it in a matter of days.
I'm glad you had a party, but I'm thinking you deserve much much more!!
We had to go through the whole rabies shots with Hayden and Megan during the summer. Sounds like we had a walk in the park compared to what your baby had to go through. I'm sooo sorry. You did great.
Holy freakin' crap. Nuff said. Hope you AND Cyd are ok.
That might be the saddest story I've ever heard. Poor baby Cyd. Is she afraid of dogs now?
That terror of not knowing where your child is...I'm so glad she was safe and well. Days like these make us grateful for the normal days with their normal annoyances. :) You handled things well.
It's the worst feeling knowing your child so upset and miserable and knowing there is nothing you can do to make it better. I hope she is feeling better. She is such a cutie!!
Oh man Alison. I feel your pain as my little Heber was also bitten by a dog this month! I chose not to post it though because it was my aunt's dog and she feels so badly about it, as I am sure the owners of that dog do. Heber was put on Augmentin but now she has 2 hard lumps right by where the dog punctured her face and the doc says we have to watch her for a skin form of TB! So scary! You did the best thing for her and that is to get her the care she needed! Hope everything else is good! Have a great day!
Hi Alison! I found you on Debras blog, so I am adding you to mine! How are things going for you guys? Enjoying the house? Looks like you have had a little excitement around your place lately! I hope all is well now and hope she heals up great...what a tough little girl!
WOW! The bus experience happened with Brinlee once, & oh man what a scare! Poor CYDANEE( as Braxton calls her! lol) I am sooooo sorry for both of you. I know I would've been crying too! Definitely been offended also if the doctor said that to me. Hope all else is ok, & hope to see you someday soon.
Oh my gosh! I hope she's doing ok, poor girl! I'm sad I missed Bunco, and sorry I completely spaced getting a sub, I felt so bad! I remembered the next day, but it was too late!
Alison! What a nightmare. Poor little Cydnie- she is so brave!
